Recently I had a great need to investigate ‘langue de chat’ biscuits, due to their allegedly superior dunking qualities. My dear friend swears she searches Fulham for these delicacies. Whilst searching for info under your biscuit section, I was surprised to see that biscuits, even for advanced level gourmands, always came in packets. Is that to insulate them in the North? I have a great love of biscuits in tins, and of course they are pretty and reusable tins. The spying of biscuit tins on upper shelves must surely warm the heart of the average advanced biscuit fancier?

Nicey replies: I'm doing my utmost to empathise but not really making it. So your basic concern is that posh French biscuits should really be available only in tins? However, I certainly follow your basic premise that biscuit tins are a good thing, and it gives my a good excuse to use our biscuit tin icon. |

dear nicey and wifey,
i have just returned from a lovely trip to france with my boyfriend sam, during which time we decided to stock up on some nice biscuits and see how they compare on the continent. I have to say that the dunking capabilities of all 5 breeds that we sampled were horrifying. the biscuits immediately fell apart upon insertion into the tea (obviously a variety of temperatures were sampled.) this created havoc, and i'm sure has put sam slightly off me, as he has witnessed me trying to 'save' several biscuits by shoving the whole soggy mess into my mouth, and in the process getting most of it down my top. Has anyone else noticed that perhaps the structural engineers of the french biscuit world need a bit of a talking to? would value your opinion.

Nicey replies: I must admit it's never really occurred to me to dunk a French biscuit, much in the way we don't tend to drive on the proper left hand side of the road when over there, but well done for trying. It does show that our biscuits are much more designed for the British way of life than we might suspect. I'm sure you haven't done any permanent harm to your relationship through your biscuit impropriety. It sounds like the sort situation that most well adjusted blokes would approve of whole heartedly. |

At school at the moment we're doing an investigation on biscuit dunking, and we're testing Nice biscuits, Shortcake biscuits and Malted Milks. Your site is really useful, because i managed to find pictures of two of the biscuits there, but please please please can you put on a picture of a nice biscuit? Even though they are pretty vile biscuits! I need the picture and i can't find one anywhere else on the net!!! |
Nicey replies: I'm afraid I'm not prepared to take a picture of the nice biscuit even to help your school project. You will need to undertake this potentially hazardous task your self using some form of digital camera. Alternately you could probably bung one under a scanner and try that. If people can scan cats then I'm sure a biscuit should work.. |
